Net Metering Policy: The 2015 & 2023 Shifts

Nevada originally had full-retail net metering (Nevada was the first state to exceed 1 GW of solar in 2016). But in December 2015, the PUC abruptly ended net metering for new customers and allowed NV Energy to charge higher rates to solar customers. This caused installations to collapse by 90%. Nevada Solar Incentives & Rebates (2026)

30% Federal Investment Tax Credit (ITC)

All Nevada homeowners who purchase (not lease) a solar system are eligible for the federal tax credit, which covers 30% of total system cost. For an $18,000 installation, this reduces your federal tax liability by $5,400. The credit remains at 30% through 2032, then steps down to 26% (2033) and 22% (2034). NV Energy Solar Incentive Programs

Nevada Solar Property Tax Exemption
