About SolarSavingsHome
Free, accurate solar calculators built for US homeowners. No sign-ups, no spam β just data-driven solar insights.
Our Mission
SolarSavingsHome was created to help American homeowners make informed decisions about residential solar energy. We believe that going solar should not require a PhD in engineering or a sales pitch from a door-to-door installer. Our tools put clear numbers in your hands so you can evaluate solar on your own terms.
What We Offer
- Six Free Calculators β Savings estimates, panel costs, payback period, grid comparison, battery sizing, and ROI analysis.
- State-by-State Data β Electricity rates, solar irradiance, incentives, and payback timelines customized for all 50 states plus Washington D.C.
- In-Depth Guides β Expert articles covering panel selection, financing, maintenance, battery storage, and the 2026 solar landscape.
- Total Transparency β Every calculator shows the formulas, data sources, and assumptions behind its results. No hidden markups or lead-generation tricks.
How Our Calculators Work
Each calculator uses publicly available data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), and the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA). Key inputs include:
- Your state's average electricity rate (cents per kWh)
- Typical solar irradiance for your location (kWh/mΒ²/day)
- Federal Investment Tax Credit (ITC) at 30% through 2032
- State and utility-level rebate programs where applicable
- System degradation rate (~0.5% per year industry standard)
All calculations run entirely in your browser β we never send your data to any server.
Data Sources
- EIA (eia.gov) β Average retail electricity prices by state
- NREL (nrel.gov) β PVWatts solar radiation database
- SEIA (seia.org) β Market trends and policy tracking
- DSIRE (dsireusa.org) β State incentive program database
Editorial Team & Accountability
The SolarSavingsHome Editorial Team is a small group of energy analysts and solar-industry writers who research, build, and maintain every calculator and guide on this site. We follow a strict editorial process:
- Research-first: Every calculator is built on publicly available federal and state data — EIA, NREL, SEIA, and DSIRE.
- Independent: We do not sell leads, take commissions, or accept payment to recommend any installer, panel, or product.
- Reviewed & updated: Content is reviewed for accuracy and refreshed as incentive programs and utility rates change.
- Corrections: If you spot outdated data, contact our team and we will correct it promptly.
